I am watching Viva’s 100% Rhianna and they showed Rhianna’s Umbrella Music Video by Chris Applebaum which brought a smile to my face.
This was the video that totally changed the way I saw and went about shooting music videos, up until around 2007 many of my videos were quite literal. However, this video gave me a different way of looking at things, the way in which Chris used sparks as opposed to raindrops, I thought was genius. Topped with painting the artist in metallic paint, and various dark and fashion set-ups started to make me think of interpreting the artist’s lyrics in a not so literal way. I tested out this new way of doing things when I shot Alyssia’s ft Panjabi Hit Squads ”Deewana” and haven’t looked back since :)
